Optimism returns among house buyers

British house buyers are starting to become more optimistic, with
some commenting that property prices have levelled out and are
beginning to rise, new research has revealed.
A survey carried out by Unbiased.co.uk discovered that just three
per cent of prospective buyers are waiting for the market to fall
further, with almost one-third (29 per cent) stating that they
believe prices are increasing.
Karen Barrett, chief executive at the online advice site, said: "No
longer are potential homebuyers biding their time until house
prices have fallen. They are now looking to buy and gathering the
means to do so."
The company also found that 31 per cent of potential first-time
buyers are waiting to take their first step on to the property
ladder until they have saved a sufficient deposit.
Figures released by the Bank of England on February 1st showed that
although the number of loan approvals for house purchases fell
slightly in December 2009 to 59,023, this was still above the
previous six-month average of 55,004.
