In more detail ....

This truly unique and wonderful property comprises a substantial period 5 bedroom farmhouse along with an impressive 2 bedroom holiday cottage, a further detached 1 bedroom holiday cottage and a large detached stone workshop/barn, all of which stand in approximately three quarters of an acre of gardens an grounds in the hamlet of Venton, just half a mile or so from Widecombe in the moor.

The house and cottages have been beautifully and painstakingly refurbished or converted by the current owner (a specialist joiner) over the last nine years and offer a level off accommodation for owner and holidaymaker that is far above what one would normally expect to see; with an abundance exposed stone and timber work, bespoke hardwood joinery and plenty of quality flourishes, such as wood burning stoves, the buildings are of superb quality.

The gardens border open fields and are a true rural idyll; with lawned areas, a vegetable plot and a small orchard, plus an abundance of mature and colourful flowers, shrubs and trees, they offer plenty of space for the owners and holiday makers to all enjoy a little privacy.

The two cottages are currently run as a successful holiday letting business by the current owners, who note that the large workshop barn could also be converted (subject to planning permission).

The services ....

The water supply for Lower Venton Farm comes from its own modern borehole and water processing plant. There is also a two chambered septic tank. A good supply of hot water comes from calor gas heating, with connections for solar panels in the future. Lower Venton Farm also has the benefit of mains electricity.

The location ....

Widecombe-in-the-Moor is a village situated in the Dartmoor National Park, approximately 13 miles north west of Newton Abbot, 7 miles west of Bovey Tracey and 22 miles south west of the City of Exeter.

Set in the heart of the Widecombe valley, the village has a surprising amount of amenities including two café tearooms, the Old Inn and the Rugglestone Inn. At the centre of the village is the magnificent church of St Pancras, also known as the "Cathedral of the Moors" and sitting quietly next door is the National Trust’s Church House and Sexton’s Cottage. However, just as important, is the village primary school.

The Village is probably best known for Widecombe Fair, held annually on the second Tuesday of each September, attracting countless visitors. Of course, the gorgeous setting of the village is one to savour, as the wild ponies, sheep and cattle meander on the village green! The scenery surrounding the village is also quite stunning.

AGENT'S NOTE: Please note that there is a separate brochure available which details the holiday business in more detail. Please enquire for more information. The vendor advises us that the fixtures and  fittings in the holiday  cottages will be included in the eventual selling price.
